Olivia Fahmy

Every year, Display invites an artist or curator to invest Display space for a specific research, develop an artistic project or plan an exhibition. For this summer 2017, we asked Olivia Fahmy, a Swiss curator, currently in MA specialization in Digital Studies at University of Lausanne and curator at TUNNEL TUNNEL, art space in Lausanne. For this residency, she will develop an exhibition project reflecting her main concerns about the relationship between scenography, exhibition space and contemporary photography. Inscribing her research in the line of Display, involved in an experimental curatorial practice, her project will also open new exchange perspectives with the Swiss art space. 

Olivia Fahmy (b.1990, Yverdon-les-Bains) is a curator based in Lausanne, Switzerland. She graduated from the University of both Lausanne and Bern with a Bachelor in History of Art, Political Science and History (2014). During her Master degree, she focuses on the history of exhibition and contemporary photography. She is now completing her education with a MA specialization in Digital Humanities. Between 2014 and 2017, she has been working as an associate curator at the Art Museum of Pully (Lausanne, CH) where she was in charge of contemporary artists’ exhibitions. Lately, she curated the exhibition Going Where We Come From, an alternative exhibition in the streets of Athens happening beside Documenta14. In the past, she has been working at the Contemporary Art Center of Yverdon-les-bains, at the Schweizerische Institut für Kunst (SIK-ISEA) and for the Rath Gallery in Berlin. Since 2015 she has created with three artists the independent art space TUNNEL TUNNEL in order to pursue curatorial projects. Her latest projects include Perforate reality, Photography facing its shortcomings, (2017) assisting the curator Pauline Martin; Diva the dog, a performance by the artist Clara Saito (2016); On a monographic exhibition of the artist Luc Andrié (2015); and Hotel Ausland, with the artist Sophie Bouvier Ausländer (2014).
