Display was founded in 2015 as a junction point between artistic and curatorial practices. Understood as a transitory space, creation, presentation, representation and questioning contemporary practices can manifest simultaneously. It was co-founded and is run since 2016 by Marie DuPasquier.
Display collaborates with artists, curators, thinkers to invest spaces with a focus on transformations and processes and questioning mediatization through small structures. We are engaged in revising image systems through situations. We consider the exhibition room as a display to be used, extended, inverted and neglected. We like to investigate the positions, movements and relationships of the different actors and bodies in the space. We aim here to give attention to experimenting curation, exhibition design and devices and to define new possibilities of sharing and combining practices. Display is a non-profit space for experimental artistic and curatorial practices and function as a zone for close contacts.
Display’s propositions deployed through a 30m2 space situated in Berlin until 2020, other external spaces and the web platform. Since 2020, it is entirely mobile. Display has been twice awarded by the Prize of the City of Berlin: Senat Kultur & Europa: Auszeichnung Künstlerische Projekträume und – Initiativen, in 2018 and 2020.
Marie DuPasquier (*1984, Lausanne) is a Swiss independent curator and museologist, living between Zürich and Berlin. She graduated with an MA in History of Art and Museology at the University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland (Eugène Ferdinand Prize), and has been Associate Curator & Administrator at Maison d’Ailleurs, Museum of science-fiction, utopia and extraordinary journeys, and President of Biel/Bienne Photography Festival for several years. Although her work recalls contemporary art practices, museum- and curatorial studies, it also reflects her transdisciplinary approach.
In her recent researches as a freelance curator, she focuses her interests on exhibition design and devices, the movements and meeting of different bodies involved in a space and the activation of image systems. They take form in the multiple collaborations and exhibitions made with Display, space for artistic and curatorial practices in Berlin that she is running. Display was doubly awarded by the prize of the City of Berlin, in 2018 and 2020 (Senat Kultur & Europa: Auszeichnung Künstlerische Projekträume und – Initiativen). She participated in the curatorial residencies at Mumbai Art Room (IN) in partnership with Pro Helvetia New Dehli and at Künstlerhaus Lukas, Ahrenshoop (DE). She also collaborated with Kunsthalle Neuchâtel, CAN and Dynamo – Projektraum13, Zürich (CH), the Mulhouse Biennial of Photography and Les Rencontres de la photographie d’Arles (FR), The Others – Torino (IT), Berlin Art Prize, Berlin Art Week and Horse & Pony, Berlin (DE), Greylight Projects and Poppositions, Brussels (BE).
